Upcycling: another reason to finish that bottle of wine
The idea is to cut off the bottom of each bottle and create lanterns that radiate candle light and create a romantic environment for any room or occasion. The process is relatively simple, but it does require some precision, so stock up on extra bottles just in case. I’ll walk you through the process.
You'll need:
Here's what you do:
1) Decide on the height of your lanterns and mark your bottles using the grease pencil.
2) Follow my Glass Cutting Instructions to remove the bottom of each wine bottle.
3) Once the bottom of your new lanterns are sanded, adhere 5 clear bumpers to the bottom edge so that enough air can feed the candle’s flame.
4) Set your candle in the lantern’s desired location, light it up, and place the lantern over the candle. Be sure not to touch the neck of the bottle/lantern once the candle is lit because it WILL get hot.
You now have a gorgeous wine bottle lantern! Voila!
