Summer is finally here! With the sun shining brighter and the waves crashing with a more inviting rumble, you’re sure to need a fabulous pair of sunglasses to keep your eyes squint-free and stylish.
The thousands of different styles and brands of sunglasses reflect each “sista’s” unique fashion sense. The Wicked White in you may want to rock some Carreras. If you’re a Drama Queen, Burberry may be for you. If you’re a beach bum like Surfer Chick, then Ray Bans are the only choice.
Embrace your style this summer and let your sunglasses reflect who you are!
Send us a picture of you in your sunglasses and a glass of Middle Sister wines and we'll post it in our Photo Gallery!
Is there a national heat wave or something? Jimminy Christmas it's boiling outside. And it's not just hot, its HUMID. What a terrible combination. For those of you who are foreigners to NYC heat, its downright awful. These tall buildings might look pretty at night when they're all lit up and fancy looking, but the truth is, they allow no air to flow through the city. It's like an oven! Ugh and yuck.
If you are like me and need to cool down this summer, I've picked a few of my favorite go-to items for when it's utterly unbearable outside. These light-weight fabrics keep you cool when you feel like you want to melt. Here are a few from one of my favorite designers, Max Azria for BCBG:
So light and airy, this BCBG Silk Drawstring Dress will be super comfy whether you are walking around the city or lounging poolside. The print is beautiful as well, it will really draw attention to your impeccable fashion sense! For day wear, pair it with strappy gladiators and big sunglasses to complete your look.
How divine is this BCBG Tiered Sleeveless Dress? It's like you're on your way to play in a very fashionable tennis match! I heart this. White is sooooo in this summer, so stylize this up with neutral and white accessories to emphasize this glamorous color.
Love love love this BCBG Printed Sleeveless Dress! And the shape of the neckline is so flattering! I would live in this dress if I didn't have other amazing dresses to strut around in, but you get the point. It is perfect. So modern and so chic and so versatile. Wear this during the day or jazz it up with sky high, black leather strappy heels and transition this to a night out look. Mixing the bright colors and dark shoes will instantly shoot you way ahead of the fashion curve!
And finally, the maxi of all maxi dresses. This BCBG Tiered Maxi Dress is gorgeous. And if you belt it, as shown here, you infuse added interest and I guarantee you everyone will be envious. I mean look at it, ah-mazing.
I just checked the weather, it is a stifling 96 degrees. I'm sorry, but that is outrageous. Good thing I have a chilled bottle of my delicious Pinot Grigio and a few light-weight and absolutely adorable dresses to keep me cool and looking, as always, incredible :-)
High heels and heat waves - Marise, Hot and Humid Drama Queen
Break out that nail file and get ready to embrace this Summer's most exciting accessory. Nail color! A very subtle, yet suprisingly sexy way to express yourself in this glamorous world of fashion is to paint pretty colors on your nails. A clean manicure paired with the right nailpolish color can bring added attention to detail that spice up any outfit.
Take for example my last blog post. It was anchored with a modern spin on nautical chic-ness, pairing stripes with bold accessories and beach inspired wedges. Now, just imagine how a perfect nail color could make one of those outfits pop. Take a navy blue and white striped flowy top over dark blue skinny jeans with a long gold chain sporting an anchor pendant and add this color to your nails:
How classy is this color? Really Red by Essie is my absolute fav this summer. I've received so many compliments on this color choice and you can too for just $8! That my darlings, is the cheapest accessory I own and I'm L-O-V-I-N-G it!
A recent trend has been to slather on anything neon you find in your local pharmacy for $2. I am here to dispel the myth that this is acceptable. Instead of attracting bugs with your fluorescent nails, why not choose something a little deeper in hue? Like this:
Midnight Cami. How sexy is this deep blue? It has the edginess of going purley black, but the softness of a star lit sky. Wear this to the beach while donning an all white outfit or bathing suit or on a Friday night when you've finally pulled the tags off of that new cocktail dress. Eek, this color is delicious.
And finally, for day wear, find something nude that compliments your skin tone. For me? I prefer something with pink undertones, like Sugar Daddy or True Love:
Now, before you go, here are a few manicure tips from yours truly:
1) Always always always go with a shorter nail cut. Length is out (hopefully for good). So cut those nails Middle Sisters! Trust me, it is the much classier route.
2) Try a color before committing! There is no shame in asking the manicurist to paint one nail so you can make a final decision. The wrong color choice can age you, look ridiculously too young for you and/or appear (gaaaaaasp) cheap.
3) Take your own color with you to the nail salon so you can do personal touch-ups as the week goes on. Also, buy your own clear top-coat and reapply daily. Your color will last longer and so will your dollars.
Until next week MIddle Sisters!
High heels and heavenly hues - Marise, Happily Colorful Drama Queen
Ahoy my beautiful Middle Sisters! What is with the ocean and ship theme!? I'm so glad you asked :-) My new favorite t-shirts and accessories for the summer are anything nautical. And with these, you can go wild! You can layer necklaces, wear huge earrings and pile on the bracelets. I know, I know, it might counter a few other pointers I have given you, but it is the summer... go crazy! Ok, below are my must haves:
Striped Tee's
Do not be afraid of wearing t-shirts with horizontal stripes! LIke much fashion heresay, the myth that horizontal stripes make you look bigger is incorrect. When worn in the right size, shape, and fit for your body, the style can be very flattering. Here are my picks from www.shopbop.com
Nautical Necklaces
Throw on layers of these necklaces over any of these striped tee's to sail up your look! And as usual, mix up the golds and silvers. Trust me, it will look ah-mazing. Here are a few from www.aldoshoes.com
Beachy Sandals
Wedges! I love them and Tory Burch does it like no other :-)
Ah, I can't wait for you to rock this nautical look. Pair these tee's and accessories with dark skinny jeans for a saturday night out with the girls or with frayed jean shorts or prim white sailor shorts for a more casual chic day look. Enjoy Middle Sisters!
High heels and high tide - Marise, Captain of the Drama Queens
This season's girls-night-out fashion tip: sequins! And I already know what you are thinking... Ahhhh! Sequins conjure images of bad 80's fashion and shoulder padded blazers and white-washed denim and skirts with leggings (that never came back by the way, their brief return in 2005 was unwarranted and unnecessary). But there is a new dawn of glitz upon us and if done with a fashionably forward and thoughtful approach, we just might have ourselves a shiny keeper.
Let's start small and work our way up the sequin ladder. If you need to test the waters before completely diving in to this sequin phenomenon, start with the accessories:
Like this Steve Madden Black Sequin Tote - it has just enough glitz without falling overboard.
Or these bracelets and earrings from Juicy Couture - add these to any outfit for instant glamour.
Now that your toes are little wet, lets dive in!
Love love love this sequin dress from Express - it is a little short, so I suggest pairing with sheer leggings and killer heel booties.
And how adorable is this tank, also from Express - wear with anything white to give an air of sophistication.
One rule to remember while going glam: keep it simple! It is easy to become addicted to these glittery pieces and feel the need to pile them on. Resist the urge! Wear 1 piece at a time. Trust me, the statement will be made and you will look super chic :-)
Ok, go out into the world Middle Sisters and be glitzy, be luminescent and above all, be your fabulous selves!
High heels and high shine - Marise, Glittery Glamorous Drama Queen
Ok ladies, it is that time of the year. The sun is shining, flowers are blooming, day dresses are making a fierce comeback and Sex and the City 2 is about to hit theaters. Is it a cultural revolution? Yes. SATC garners love for issues from gender equality to female sexuality to women empowerment to fabulous friendships. Is it a fashion revolution? Yes. Umm... have you seen the show? Those outfits are to die for and who else but Carrie Bradshaw made Manolo Blahnik a household name? Is it also an entertainment revolution? Yes. This show debuted in 1998 and was an instant success due to its sexually relatable dialogue, charismatic characters and fashionista points of view.
Look at these women, rocking classic Little Black Dresses (my favorite), and standing so proud. They are not running from fashion or their sexuality. They are embracing it full on and I heart them!
These four women have changed the face of fashion and will always be remembered for their bold statements. What bold fashion statements will you make? Don't be afraid! Anyone can wear jeans and t-shirt (just like anyone can wear a little black dress), but how will you make yourself standout? It starts with a confidence from within and ends with a poised and alluring woman.
This Drama Queen will happily be attending the premier with her three besties (shout out to my Sisters: Mischief Maker, Smarty Pants and Rebel Red) and we all know that it will be a night to remember! As I run to select my outfit for the premier (yes, it will be absolutely fabulous), I will leave you with my two favorite Carrie Bradshaw quotes:
"It's hard to find people who will love you no matter what. I was lucky enough to find three of them."
"I admit it's tempting to wish for the perfect boss, or the perfect parent, or the perfect outfit. But maybe the best any of us can do is not quit, play the hand we've been given and accessorize the outfit we've got."
High heels and high hopes - Marise, Fashionably Fierce Drama Queen
The fashion industry can sometimes come off as trite, obnoxious and overly self-confident... but, I mean let's be honest, who doesn't at times? We all need to be a little selfish. Otherwise, how would we ever accomplish anything!? And if anyone tells you its not OK to think of yourself ahead of others sometimes, I give you permission to throw a drink in their face. Preferably not my Pinot, but if the situation calls for it... anyway, I digress, I digress.
The point is, many fashion designers are starting to think of the consumer's wallet and not just our impeccable fashion sense. Below are three designers who have created fashion lines exclusively for the money-conscious buyer. Ahhhhh, its refreshing to know that great style and chic self expression can always be affordable :-)
Jean Paul Gaultier for Target
Jean Paul Gaultier for Target® Necklace Sleeveless Top - Black - Love love love this simple black top and its only $24.99 (what??). It can be worn with light denim jeans, silver bangles and flats for a casual night out with the girls or jazzed up with dark skinny jeans, gaudy silver earrings and platform heels for a Saturday night date! But do not pile on the jewelry with this top! The added silver chain on the neckline brings just enough dazzle to support one more piece of jewelry. Heed my warning or else run the risk of looking cheesy and desperate for attention... I'm just being honest!
Isaac Mizrahi for QVC
Isaac Mizrahi - Perfect Crystal Bracelet in Silver - This bracelet has everything and -gasp- its $44.00! It glitzes, it shines, its just the right size. Pile two together and you instantly have a super chic look for less.
Isaac Mizrahi - Perfect Crystal Ring in Silver - I'm sorry, you have the matching ring? Ah-mazing! Wear this on the opposite hand of the bracelets to complete your ultra glam ensemble!
Jimmy Choo for H&M
All hail Jimmy Choo designers for creating a Drop. Dead. Gorgeous shoe line for H&M. Usually priced between $600 and $2500, these shoes can now be found for under $129 at any H&M! Since H&M doesn't have an online shopping website (what is this, the dark ages??), it has been difficult to acquire images, but never fear Sisters, check this out:
Ummmmmm, I think this is where I thank the oh-so-generous Goddess of Fabulous Footwear for her contribution to mankind.
And that, my beautiful Sisters, will round out my post for this week. If you haven't already noticed, everything you've seen here can be worn together for the ultimate fashion statement :-)
High heels and daring designers - Marise, Positively Posh Drama Queen
"Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking." We all know and love The Devil Wears Prada... and whether or not the main character is based off of the fabulousness of Anna Wintour and despite the obvious sarcasm in that statement, this Drama Queen LOVES florals! Seriously... totes loves them.
I know what you're thinking: uhhhhh, excuse me? Drama Queen? It's March and its cold and its rainy and still a little snowy. Why are you already talking flowers?? Because my Pinot Drinking lovelies. Because you must always be ahead of the fashion curve. Because you must spring ahead. Because if you are not prepared for that random beautifully sunny day amidst the depressing rainy days, some other super chic chica will be and then what? You're going to wish you had listened to me and maybe that cute guy in the park would have taken a second glance :-) Now look at the goodies I've brought with me!
I just purchased the cutest spring dress - Kimchi Blue - Print Chiffon Sahara Dress It has all of the essentials: a classic cut that gathers at the waist to essentuate my curves; a light, flowy fabric that will keep me cool on hot days; conveniently placed pockets where I can stow my go-to Rosebud - Minted Rose Lip Balm and a modern, chic floral print that puts my Great Grandmother Alice to shame.
I must run along now Sisters, I still have unpacking to do and my clothes are not going to steam themselves (unfortunately). Talk to you next week darlings!
High heels and beautiful bouquets - Marise, Faboulously Floral Drama Queen
Oh middle sisters, how I have neglected you so. Many apologies my Pinot darlings! But if you only knew how exhasuted I've been from moving this past weekend, you would completely understand my lack of posts. It has been terrible! First, my movers canceled and I had to scrounge up people last minute from CraigsList to assist me in my move downtown. That's right ladies, this Drama Queen is no longer an Upper East Sider-but I always will be in my heart :-). I am now a resident of the super hip East Village, where style, fashion, and art meet in a beautifully fabulous triangle of all things chic.
With this move came many complications. I mean, how hard is it to walk an antique, cherrywood armoir up 6 flights of stairs? Stop complaining movers, at least the stairs were short. And what am I paying you for anyway? To sit around chatting about how cute I am... that is a given! Now carry my boxes and be careful, the boxes marked 'CLOTHING' are fragile and very vital to my well being!
Good thing Rebel Red was there to calm me down with her delicious wine, I just do not know what I would do without her! When Middle Sisters unite, we are unstoppable! Whether it be helping a friend move, gossiping about the latest fashion do not's or sipping wine after a long day, remember to keep your sisters close :-).
I must retire now sisters, I have mountains of boxes to unpack... if only I could pay someone to unpack them...
Next week I shall return to posting about fashion rules you can feel good about breaking! Until then, cheers darlings.
HIgh heels and high flights (of stairs) - Marise, East Village Drama Queen
Hello Middle Sisters! Drama Queen here with a very fashion forward post for you today. I am sure all of you remember the basic fashion do's and don'ts of yester-year, but I am writing to excitedly tell yout o throw them out with last year's faux fur trent! Last week, I touched on the fabulousness of wearing white after Labor Day (I hope some of you listened to my advice!) and today I am going to introduce you to some of my favorite--and not to mention modern--black and brown combos.
But here is a modern twist: Alexander Wang - Trench Dress paired with a simple black belt and black peep-toe platforms. Wear this during a casual day out.
Ok, I have given you my sound advice regarding the beautiful mixing of blacks and browns, but DO NOT over do it! Use your own personal fashion intuition because fashion is not about trends or what's hot and what's not, fashion comes from within. And great personal style can break any rules and look fabulous getting away with it.
Next week's rule to be broken: mixing patterns and florals and stripes... all in the same outfit? Indeed! Ciao my Sisters :-)
High heels and handsome hues - Marise, Fashionably Daring Drama Queen
White weaved clutches, white satin stilettos, white leather necklaces!
Ok Middle Sisters, this Drama Queen is giving you the absolutely fabulous inside scoop to this season's best accessories: snow whites.
Forget about those dated fashion faux pas regarding white after labor day or memorial day or whatever day it is. Think about it! White is the best neutral, it goes with every color! Pair it with black or navy blue for a super chic, timelessly classic look; combo it with skin tones of light pinks, beiges, and nudes for an updated urban glamwear ensamble, match it with bold brights like grassy greens, sunny yellows, or firey oranges to offset the greys of winter and look forward to spring!
Enjoy Middle Sisters and remember, do not be afraid to break outdated fashion rules. Next week's blog: the beauty of blacks and browns... together! Be on the lookout for more rules to be broken in the weeks to come. Until next time my lovely Pinot drinkers :-)
High heels and pearly whites - Marise, Whimsically White Drama Queen
How many of you darlings are keeping up with your resolutions!?
It is now 12 days in to a new decade and I am curious... have you lovely Pinot drinking beauties been keeping up with your New Years Resolutions? A new decade can mean many new beginnings! Whether it is shedding those last 10 pounds, vowing to spend more time with family/friends, promising to take at least one vacation this year, dontating to more charities, attending more fabulous galas, or (GASP) cutting back on your drinking habits (HA, not with my delicious Pinot Grigio lying around!), those pesky resolutions can cause quite the stir in your daily routine. But how rewarding are they?
VERY! Think about it. You set a goal. You work every day towards accomplishing that goal. You accomplish that goal! What a self-esteem boost! A very simple equation, yet why do resolutions always fade into the background as the year progresses? I am proposing a new approach. Check yourself every month. Put a reminder on your blackberry or your gmail calender or wherever you keep your life in order, for the first every month. It should say something encouraging, yet harsh:
"GET OFF YOUR A$$ AND GO TO THE GYM TODAY, YOU DESERVE A SEXY NEW BODY!"
"SET A DATE TO HAVE LUNCH WITH YOUR SISTER-IN-LAW, IT WILL MAKE YOUR BROTHER HAPPY... EVEN THOUGH SHE NEEDS TO CONSULT YOU BEFORE WEARING ANOTHER HIDEOUS OUTFIT."
"OH, I'M SORRY, ARE YOU ENJOYING THIS WINTERY BLIZZARD? START PLANNING YOUR NEXT TRIP TO COSTA RICA TODAY!"
Instead of feeling overwhelmed and stressed about making these sometimes life altering resolutions immediately, you can space them out and hopefully make them last throughout the entire year! What are some of your New Years Resolutions? Share them with your fellow Middle Sisters and inspire those who have not set resolutions, to do something new and different! I may be stubborn at times, but this Drama Queen always knows when a change needs to be a-comin'.
High heels and high times - Marise, Resolutionary Drama Queen
Hello wine lovers! Did you miss me :-) I apologize for the lack of posts, but it was the holidays and I was so busy with charity events and fundraisers and volunteering (yes, I aboslutely volunteer, especially over the holidays)! And it felt so great to be home. Yes, it is true, this Drama Queen might be going a little soft on you. But do not get used to it, it is only for one post.
My favorite event over the holidays was not at a fabulous red carpet gala posing as a fundraiser, it was making snow angels and building snow men with my 3 and 7 year old cousins, Connor and Kristen. They are quite possibly the cutest kids known to man (I know, everyone says that, but seriously, they are). We played in the falling snow with their dog George, we excitedly tossed snowballs at each other and we capped off the winter wonderful day with hot cocoa (my mother's special recipe). I swear, it should have been some sort of Christmas commercial or a holiday spread in Vogue because we were freakin' cute... pardon my language :-)
What was your favorite part of your holiday celebrations? It does not have to be something extraordinarily heartfelt…it can be something like you were drinking too much of my delicious pinot, ran into your high school sweatheart, drank and danced to classic 80's rock and before you knew it you were sneaking out of the event, heels in one hand and his fingers in the other hand. What? That totally did not happen to me…I swear…Ugh, whatever!
High heels and seasons greetings - Marise, Holiday Happy Drama Queen
Mmmmm food and wine: America's favorite pass time!?
Hello hello my Pinot Grigio loving darings! I have a rather delicious post for you this week. Who likes polenta!? Well it doesn't matter if you dislike it because I looooove it and I'm going to serve you up a tasty recipe. And here is the good news: it will pair perfectly with my Drama Queen Pinot Grigio! Ok middlesisters, preheat your ovens to 375 degrees F, pour yourselves a glass of my delectable Pinot and listen up!
Pleasurable Pesto Polenta
Ingredients:
1 (18 oz.) package of polenta, cut into 1/4 in. slices
1/2 (24 oz.) jar of bottled marinara sauce
1/4 cup pesto
1/4 cup pine nuts
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Baking Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F and oil an 11 x 7 x 2 in. baking dish.
Take a sip of my Pinot.
Arrange a single layer of polenta in the bottom of the prepared baking dish and spread a thin layer of pesto over the polenta.
Spread half of the marinara sauce over the polenta and top with another layer of polenta and sauce. Don't be afraid to pile on the sauce, it is delicious.
Take a sip of wine!
Bake, uncovered, for 25 minutes. And here is the fun part: turn on the broiler! Top the polenta with mozzarella cheese and pine nuts. Broil until cheese browns and nuts are toasted.
I served this dish last night at my annual Happy Holidays dinner party and everyone loved it! My upper east side apartment was filled with full tummys, mildly intoxicated brains and excited smiles. I love the holidays! Enjoy this recipe darlings and please share your thoughts. Do you have any tasty recipes to pair with my Pinot? I'd love to hear them!
Cheers darlings :-)
High heels and happy holidays - Marise, Chef de Cuisine Drama Queen
Philanthropology: the study of being fabulously charitable.
Darlings, you might not want to hear this, so pour yourself a glass of my deilicous Pinot Grigio and listen up: it is time to clear out your closets. Yes, yes, yes, it will be time consuming and I know that many tears will be shed over the loss of a few coveted items. However, you know very well that the sweater Aunt Agnes gave you for your birthday two years ago is absolutely never going to see the light of day. What you do not know is that somewhere in this world, someone will absolutely love that sweater. How dare you deprive someone of their joy! Here is what you do:
1. Put on some cheery, upbeat music (we're going to need it to get through the losses we're about to endure).
2. Pour yourself another glass of Pinot.
3. Grab your suitcase
4. Fill that suitcase to the brim with everything you have not touched in over a year.
That means shirts, jeans, blouses, trousers, hats, shoes, scarves. EVERYTHING that has depreciated in value by sitting in your closet, gathering dust, MUST GO INTO THE SUITCASE! You might find yourself saying, "But, but this lumberjack style plaid was so in last season." Let. It. Go. There are much more exciting clothes in this season.
5. Lug that suitcase to your nearest Goodwill, Salvation Army, church or homeless shelter and say "ciao bella" to your old, drab wardrobe.
Ok, breathe.. I think it is over...we survived...And look at the bright side: more room in your closet = more new clothes. We cannot have empty closets! This Drama Queen always knows when to give back to her community. It might not be entirely altruistic (hey, holiday sales are no joking matter), but we contributed our unused belonginigs to those who need them much much more. And that is something to toast to. Raise your glasses and repeat after me: "I helped someone today and I am even more fabulous because of it!"
Cheers darlings :-)
High heels and charitable giving - Marise, Philanthropic Drama Queen
Hello my wine loving darlings! I am here with sage Drama Queen advice: never, under any circumstances, should you ask your boyfriend about an ex-girlfriend after 4 glasses of Pinot Grigio...no matter how delicious my wine is. One would think certain topics might fall under the 'common knowledge' brain category; however, under certain function-altering-substances, some topics might slip into the 'perfectly acceptable to talk about' category. And that is where circumstances can get uncomfortably awkward.
My fabulous friends and I were celebrating our girl's birthday at the 6th Ward (a super fun Lower East Side spot), when a friend of my boyfriend accidentally let slip a story regarding his ex. The thing is, I was not aware of this particular ex who 1) works at his law firm 2) is best friends with his best friend's girfriend and 3) I have had to hang out with before at both work and friendly gatherings. It bothered me that he had failed to mention the relationship when she is in such close proximity to our social circles. I marched up, stated my business and awaited my deserved answers. Wine was drank, a few tears were shed and words were exchanged: "Would you like to explain yourself?" and "Oh c'mon, you cannot be jealous over her...she wears fake eyelashes (even though Halloween was last month) and she gets a spray tan." and "I'm sorry, what exactly was her appeal?" and "Oh... well.. you know..." and "No, I do not know. That is unacceptable, regardless of how bored you were." But it eventually ended with him proclaiming his undying affection for his beautiful, intelligent, fashionably chic and adorable girlfriend. How could I stay mad at that? The conversation did take place after 4 glasses of my delicious Pinot Grigio :-)
The moral of the story ladies: do not ask your boyfriend about his ex after 4 glasses of wine...but also, there is absolutely no reason to be jealous over a girl who has actually muttered the phrase, "Ugh, my spray tan is splotchy." This Drama Queen knows when she has won, even if the splotchy bimbo was not aware of the fight.
High heels and high glasses - Marise, Confident Drama Queen
I do not think I can accurately explain how excited I am about this post! Ok, yes darlings, we are in a recession, but should fashion suffer? Absolutely not! I, Marise, do solemnly swear to post three of my favorite fall/winter fashion statements that will enhance your closet while preserving your wallet. Ok ladies, grab a glass of my delicious Pinot Grigio and pay close attention to my fashion tips!
Lets begin with the perfect trench coat. No, I am not talking about those ridiculous faux leather trench coat mafia knockoffs. I am talking about the classically classy trench coat. Burberry has perfected this design: THE classic trench coat. Oh how I love Burberry… but I do not love the $2,000 price tag. Now, here is a beautiful alternative to the classic design for a mere $250: Oooooooo I love this! Throw this chic coat over any outfit for any occasion. It is so versatile and should definitely be a staple in any woman’s closet.
On to the perfect day dress. I love love love to show off my legs (even in winter!) and here is a dress you can pair with a sheer pair of leggings to make it winter-appropriate while still looking fashionably fabulous: The perfect day dress. I love a cute boat neck dress, it’s my guilty pleasure and I happily feed the addiction! And did you see the price? $175! Fabulous Ann Taylor, simply fabulous.
And finally, the exclamation point at the end of every outfit…the shoes! Since we are traveling down the classic and chic route, look at these beauties for just $89: Shut up! These are $89!? If you want something a little trendier, get them in Pewter! It is still a classic style and the intense color only adds to the chic-ness of the design.
Ok ladies, enjoy my fashion tips and I better see you strutting your new looks around town! What are some of your favorite winter fashion trends? Share them with your middle sisters!
High heels and high fashion,
How to be classy during the Halloween festivities!
Darlings, hello and happy early All Hallows Eve! I know most of you probably have your costumes already, but I wanted to share a few of my fabulous suggestions with you. The trends for female costumes usually involve cheap fabric, lots of skin, and low dignity. Now, if we are going to be flitting around Manhattan with glasses of my delicious Pinot Grigio in our hands, we cannot be dressed as slutty bumblebees or trashy versions of our beloved fairy tale princesses.
Class. It. Up.
Even though it might be tempting to purchase a pre-packaged costume, where is the fun and creativity in that? How embarrassed would you be if someone showed up at a fabulous party wearing your outfit? The same goes for Halloween. Be creative ladies! Piecing together your own costume is so much more exciting and 100% uniquely you! Here are my 3 suggestions for creating your own classy Halloween costume:
Classy Costume 1: Holly Golightly
If you have never seen Breakfast at Tiffany’s, please stop reading my blog. You are not worthy, sorry darling. Audrey Hepburn is an American fashion icon and forever won my heart as Holly Golightly. One would say my personal love of little black dresses was born with my love for Audrey Hepburn. Find these 7 items, wear accordingly and your costume will be complete:
1. Your favorite LBD.
2. Strands and strands and strands…and strands of pearls!
3. A jeweled tiara.
4. High high high heeled black pumps.
5. Opera length black gloves.
6. A beautiful broach to pin somewhere amidst the pearls.
7. An extra long cigarette holder with fake cigarettes because c’mon, we know better (found in any costume shop).
Classy Costume 2: Mia Wallace
Yes, we know she overdosed on drugs in Pulp Fiction…well yeah…that’s pretty un-classy. But she did it so stylishly, who even noticed? Again, put theses pieces together and you will have a fabulous costume:
1. A black or dark brown short-haired wig with straight cut bangs.
2. A white button down shirt.
3. A black suit jacket with black wide-legged or bell-bottom slacks.
4. A FAKE cigarette.
5. Black pumps.
Classy Costume 3: Be yourself!
It is never boring to dress up and be yourself. Find your favorite cocktail or floor length dress, put on your new high heels, and give yourself a stunning red lip. Who needs costumes when we are clearly already so fabulous as ourselves? And darlings, who needs an excuse to look fabulous? Not. Me.
What are some of your costume ideas!? Share them with me and your sisters here at Middle Sister Wines! Ciao darlings and have a classy and fun All Hallows Eve :-)
Hello hello my lovelies! How many of you have ever been to a horse race!? Now, I know they may seem a little old fashioned, but these days, going to ahorse race hardly means actually watching the horse race. No, no, no, in fact, it means renting a stretch Lincoln Navigator with 24 of your best
friends, throwing on a pair of super cute wellies to battle the inevitable mud (I chose a classic J Crew pair in bright peony!), and drinking until, well, the horse race is over…except no one really knows when that is, soooo just keep drinking until the men in uniform politely ask you to leave.
Every year the socialites of New York City venture to the foreign and distant undiscovered territory of Far Hills, New Jersey for The Hunt--Steeplechase Championships. This year was no exception. We toasted each other with my oh so tasty Pinot Grigio! We laughed as people stumbled and fell into the mud! We caught small glimpses of the horses jumping over those steeple thingies! It was a fabulously exciting day. But who would I be if I posted a blog without a juicy story? Certainly not the Drama Queen :-)
So, my friend Jacqueline (senior designer for Lily Pulitzer) and I are drinking my Pinot and happily recanting the hilarious events of the day when, out of nowhere, her incredibly drunk ex-boyfriend (Greg) stumbles over. And stumbles, is being nice…it was more of a drunken stagger. Everyone knows that when wine and ex’s are mixed, the outcome is never a good one, even for innocent bystanders such as myself. He then takes it upon himself to begin berating her about how she ripped out his heart and about how she was a ‘witch’ (well, you know what he actually said). Clearly, I, being the fabulous friend that I am, was not going to tolerate this kind of crude behavior towards one of my girls.Mean, right? Jacqueline cannot be blamed for his insecurities. Grow. Up. Greg.
Well, I wish that was the end of this story, but sticking up for your friend is not always in your best interest. Especially when her ex is a blatant fool. So, he turned his wrath on me and began shouting insults that I do not care to repeat. However, without so much as flinching…I slapped him. That’s right--directly across the face. He deserved it! No one speaks to me that way, particularly when I am defending someone who I care for. Needless to say, he was stunned and well, put in his place. Like I said, no one speaks to me that way.
But I wish to end on a much more fabulously happy note so click the link below to view my Fall Fashion Outfit of the Week! And do not forget, a fabulous outfit must be paired with a fabulous glass of my Pinot Grigio for ultimate success.
Drama drama everywhere without a (rain) drop to spare!
Hello, hello, hello my Pinot darlings! Did you miss me? Of course you did, but do not worry because there are plenty of stories to satiate your drama hunger! Let’s begin...
So, I was at a concert last weekend on Governor’s Island, one of my cutie patootie boy interests was performing :-), and everything started out spectacular! I, of course, brought a bottle of my Drama Queen Pinot Grigio to share with everyone backstage and we were having such a fun time until 3 events occurred in rapid succession, leading to a serious fun sponge-ing of the night:
1. It started raining. On Governor’s Island. An outdoor venue. And my new Marc Jacobs, Peep Toe Suede Booties (tell me these aren't super cute!?) did not fare well against mother nature… lets just say suede and rain do not play well together :-(
2. After running to a tent to nurse my wounded booties, I realized 2 things: a) my backstage wristband had fallen off in the turmoil and b) I had (stupidly) not worn my water proof mascara. Like I could feel any more dejected. First my feet, then my elite access and now my face!? Arrrrrrrgh!!
3. To add to this tortuous experience, during all of this commotion, I missed my cutie’s performance. I returned (after seriously schmoooooozing the bouncer - “Hello, don’t you know who I am?”) to find an obvious downgrade attempting to hit on my boy toy. Ok, let's be honest here. Even with a face full of runny mascara, I’m still an A list. C’mon honey. To quote Cher from Clueless, “AS IF!”.
Despite the fuss, this Drama Queen knows when to pout and when to, well, be fabulous. I poured a glass of my stunning Pinot Grigio, tracked down my bestie Jordan and danced, sang, and proudly smooched my boo in the rain.
Today’s lesson my darlings? Water proof your feet… and your face!
Oh and don’t forget to pick up your own bottle of delicious Middle Sister Wine! Which Middle Sister are you!? I don’t want to brag… no, that’s not true, I do want to brag. Who wouldn’t want to be me? Pinot Grigio for all!
High heels and high rain clouds,
Marise – Drama Queen Extraordinaire
The Drama Queen? Ooo I love it, it has such a good ring to it! "Marise - Drama Queen" or "Marise - Queen of the Drama." Ha, take that 'other sisters' and watch as I so clearly dominate middle sisterhood! Anyway, hello to all of my wine loving darlings! How is everyone enjoying the fall weather and more importantly the fall fashion? I wore this season's new Michael Kors Lisa Wrap Boot (So cute in brown leather!) with dark jeans and my ultimate fave Vince cardi (loves loves loves it). It was perfect outside. And don't be afraid of those heels girls, lengthen those legs and love it! But let me tell you this, I was at the Hamptons house of my girl Jordan (senior designer for Isaac Mizrahi) and this social-lowlite walked in wearing my beautiful new boots with *gasp* a button down, sheer, pink plaid shirt... I. Was. Mortified. If you are going to buy your style at k-mart, leave the boots out of it. Please end their suffering. Clearly Jordan and I had to go all Mean Girls on her and politely inform her that it was not Wednesday and she was therefore not allowed to wear pink and was thus not allowed to play with the cool kids…bu-bye now. That movie always proves to be so applicable to every day life. Ha, can't wait for the JustJared gossip column shoutout!
On to more important matters such as wine and celebrating! I must be running along, but you can catch me jetting off to Atlanta today with a glass of my Middle Sister Drama Queen Pinot Grigio in hand for Wine Women & Shoes - A Stylish Event for Well-Heeled Women: Meet the Vintners Behind the Scenes: Merlot and Manolo, Peep Toe and Pinot. I'll be learning about the fine art of wine and shoe pairing!
High heels and high spirits,
Drama Queen - Marise
