I know I am known for my baking prowess, but I can cook up a mean soup too! In honor of Women's Healthy Weight Day which is tomorrow, I'm whipping up some lentil soup. Ladies, this recipe is ridiculously easy, healthy and DELICIOUS! I'll make it today, and have enough for the whole family to last for a couple of days.
Sweetie Pie's Lentil Soup
2 cups dried lentils
8 cups of chicken or vegetable stock
1 can or box of diced tomatoes
	2 Tbsp. olive oil
	1 large onion, chopped
	3-4 stalks of celery, chopped
1 large carrot, chopped or sliced in rounds
	4 cloves of garlic, chopped
	1 Tbsp. dried oregano
	1 Tbsp. dried basil
	Salt & pepper to taste
1. In a large soup pot, heat oil over medium heat. Saute onion, celery, carrot and spices in olive oil until the onion is transluscent. Add the garlic and saute for another minute.
2. Add tomatoes, lentils and stock and bring to a boil.
3. Reduce heat to low, cover and let simmer for 1 hour or so, until the len...

Why I Love My Kindle Touch

I had for a lot things on my Christmas List this year, but the BEST gift I received promises to satisfy my inner geek AND my inner bookworm: The Kindle Touch. Why a Kindle Touch? Why not a Nook or a Kindle Fire... or for that matter, why not get an iPad? Well I’ll tell you.

I spend most days staring at one glowing screen after another. Whether its the television, my computer, phone, or even my iPod, if you see me, I’m probably staring at a screen. After a while, I get kind of tired of it. I want to sit back with a nice glass of wine and read a good book – you know, ACTIVELY use my brain. Ignite my imagination without the assistance of animated birds with attitude problems.

The iPad, then, is not the e-reader for me. For one thing, it is a glowing screen just like the rest. Plus, the iPad does so many things that it is pretty unlikely I will actually sit down and READ on the thing. I’ll get stuck arguing with angry birds,...

Looking for an interesting gift for the wine lover in your life? Here are three great books that I highly recommend. So sit back, have a glass of my Pinot Noir and do some armchair holiday shopping!

"Wine is not to fear or revere, but to enjoy," says Leslie Sbrocco, wine expert and great friend to the Middle Sisters. And that's exactly what she shows you how to do in Wine for Women, a wine book written exclusively for women -- the majority of wine consumers.
Each chapter focuses on a different variety of wine, and covers what Leslie calls the big three -- how to buy, pair, and share wine. You'll learn how to make smart buying decisions in stores and restaurants. Leslie also gives you practical advice for pairing wine and food and offers insights on entertaining with wine, whether you're having an informal picnic or planning the most formal of weddings.
Confused between Chardonnay and Champagne? Think little black dress versus sequins. And Pinot Gris? Thi...

Thanksgiving Tablescapes

Drama Queen here. I know you’re all busy in the kitchen with my more domestic sister, Sweetie Pie, but when you’re done you will actually have to serve all that food...so shouldn’t your table be as extravagant as the feast itself? I thought so. Here are some easy ways to make a statement with your table this Thanksgiving.
Place Cards
Cut parchment into several 2” x 3” rectangles. Write out your guests’ first names on each piece with a gold paint pen (both available at your local craft store). Then, when the table is set, pop each place card into your guests’ wine glasses, gold writing facing out. It’s a classy alternative to the norm, and your guests will have fun finding their names in the glasses.

Place Settings
Now, what do you do about the spot where the place card would go? Think of it this way: If the cards are going where the wine should be, maybe the wine should go where the cards usually are! No no, of course I don’...

I love hostessing the holidays, but Thanksgiving is notorious for what I like to call "oven-juggling," and sometimes even I can't handle it all!

Here are some recipes you can make a day or two before the big feast, so you can spend a little less time in the kitchen on Thanksgiving and a little more time with your guests!

 Bourbon-Cranberry Compote (via Real Simple)

 Ingredients

1 12-ounce bag cranberries, fresh or frozen (3 1⁄2 cups)
 3/4 cup sugar
 1/2 cup apple juice
 1/4 cup bourbon

 Directions

 1. In a saucepan, combine the cranberries, sugar, apple juice, and bourbon.
 2. Simmer, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries begin to burst and the sauce thickens, 20 to 25 minutes. Let cool before serving. Serves 8.
